Jewellery Care Guide

Treat your silver well, and it'll outlast trends, seasons, and even you.

The Golden Rule

Silver is the last thing on, first thing off. Apply your perfume, lotion, sunscreen, and hairspray before you put your jewellery on. And take it off before you swim, shower, sleep, or work out.

Daily Care

  • Avoid contact with chemicals — perfumes, lotions, hairsprays, cleaning products, and chlorinated water all dull silver over time.
  • Wipe after every wear — use the silver polishing cloth that comes with your VRUPALS order. A few seconds of buffing keeps the shine alive.
  • Skip the shower — even though our pieces are e-coated for water resistance, prolonged exposure to soaps and shampoos shortens the life of any silver piece.
  • Store separately — keep each piece in its own pouch or compartment to prevent scratches and tangling.

Storage

Store your silver in the airtight pouch we provide, away from direct sunlight and humidity. If you live in a coastal or humid city, drop a small silica gel sachet into the pouch — it slows oxidation dramatically.

Cleaning at Home

For routine cleaning, the polishing cloth is all you need. For deeper cleaning:

  1. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap into warm (not hot) water.
  2. Soak the piece for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Gently clean with a soft toothbrush, paying attention to clasps and crevices.
  4. Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth — never rub vigorously.
  5. Finish with the polishing cloth.

Do not use bleach, ammonia, baking soda, or commercial silver dips on stone-set pieces — they can damage stones, pearls, and protective coatings.

For Stone-Set Pieces

Pearls, cubic zirconia, and natural stones need extra care. Avoid soaking them in water, never use ultrasonic cleaners, and always store them separately from harder pieces.

When To Send It Back To Us

If your piece develops dullness that won't lift with cleaning, or the plating shows wear after years of use — send it to us. Our lifetime plating warranty covers re-plating, and minor repairs (clasps, jump rings) are usually free or nominal.
